Privacy Notice (POPIA)

We explain the personal information used for academy accounts, course purchases and student support, including which service providers help deliver the website.

Student login testing is active; purchases are disabled. The seller/privacy contact and any intended international transfers must be confirmed before public paid registration is opened.

1. Responsible party

The Fine Line Academy is the public-facing brand. Before opening paid enrolments, this section will identify the responsible party’s full legal name, legal status, address and a working privacy contact email. See the Seller Information page. This disclosure must not be omitted once selling begins.

2. What information is collected

We may process your account email, secure sign-in identifiers, password-reset and login records, purchase/order references, course enrolments, download and access events, support messages, and limited technical information needed to operate and secure the service. We do not ask students to send passwords or full payment-card details to the academy.

3. Why we use it

We use student information to create and secure accounts, confirm and fulfil purchases, provide course access, respond to support requests, prevent abuse, keep necessary financial records and comply with legal obligations. Optional course announcements and marketing are treated separately from necessary service emails.

4. Mandatory versus optional information

An email address and sign-in details are necessary for a protected student account. Purchase and invoicing details will be required to fulfil a paid order. If you do not provide required information, we may be unable to register your account or deliver a course. Marketing consent, where requested, is optional.

5. Service providers and cross-border processing

We use Netlify for website hosting, Supabase for authentication, student records and private storage, and Paystack for payment processing when live checkout is launched. These providers may process or host data outside South Africa, including in European cloud regions. Any international transfer must comply with POPIA and appropriate safeguards or another lawful ground. Review the relevant providers’ privacy notices for details.

6. Cookies and essential browser storage

The account area uses essential browser storage for sign-in sessions and security. Optional analytics or advertising trackers should not be enabled without an updated notice and, where required, suitable consent. We do not claim that advertising or analytics technologies are active unless they have been enabled.

7. Security

We apply proportionate access controls, private course storage and server-side purchase verification. No online service can guarantee absolute security. If a personal-information compromise triggers statutory notification duties, we will take the steps required by POPIA.

8. Retention

We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for its stated purposes, legal records, dispute handling and security. When information is no longer lawfully needed, we will delete or de-identify it subject to applicable obligations. Exact operational retention schedules will be documented before launch.

9. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask whether we hold personal information about you, request access or correction, object to qualifying processing, request deletion in relevant circumstances and complain to South Africa’s Information Regulator. Requests should be sent to the privacy contact shown on the Seller Information page.

10. Marketing preferences

We will not treat creation of an account as automatic consent to unrelated marketing. Where electronic marketing is permitted, each marketing communication will identify the sender and provide a practical means to stop further messages, in line with POPIA.

11. Information Regulator

The South African Information Regulator provides official information and complaints procedures at inforegulator.org.za. Our designated Information Officer details and PAIA manual will be made available as legally required before commercial launch.
